Rationale
This course will focus on building an ethically and empirically based examination of business and professional issues relevant to the realities of the corporate endeavour including the governance of corporations, the impacts of corporate decisions on various stakeholders and the issue of economic corruption. The course will introduce students to a range of theoretical approaches to corporate ethical decision making within the context of case based analysis and applied research methodologies.
Synopsis
The fundamental role of business is to benefit society through the provision of value-adding products and services. This course will expose students to a range of complex and problematic moral cases that will require the collection of data to provide the basis for solutions that will achieve corporate outcomes without restraint from theoretical moral reasoning. Students will be required to consider a variety of possibilities of moral consequences to their decisions and to develop the ability to imagine a wide range of possible issues, consequences and solutions.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- demonstrate applied knowledge of business ethics and practice sufficient to comprehend and address complex ethical dilemmas
- identify and critically discuss the ethical issues inherent in a range of complex organizational cases
- design research and be able to evaluate, synthesise and critically analyse data with other theoretical evidence to provide solutions for moral debates that are both creative and practical
- demonstrate reflective practice about the ethical issues inherent in business decisions and behaviours.
